This is a blog mostly to keep track of all the cool and beautiful things in the world that inspire me. So, basically, it alternates between comics, makeup, and some sort of lulz-version of feminist propaganda. Occasionally I post my own art, but really, to see that, just go to marietietje.com
We’re in another golden age of superheroes, I feel it in my bones.
NO. NO IT ISNT. NOT OUTSIDE OF BIG-NAME SUPERHERO MOVIES.
Oh my goodness I can’t even articulate this well enough because I’m so angry, but let me cover the basics:
1. The vast amount of female characters are over-sexulized visually, if not in their characterization as well.
2. Character death is pretty much meaningless at this point. Almost every big-name hero (and/or close family/friends) have died. And yet, they come back again and again like nothing happened.
3. EVENTS. It all started with Crisis on Infinite Earths (and if you read the intro to softcover book, the creators regret what they did), where there were great “Event” books where superheroes are crossing over into each other’s titles and if you want to follow the story at least a little bit you have to buy a shit ton of comics. Usually there was lots of character death, crazy back stories, some new alien/villain/etc, and so on and so forth. So if you had any plans of just skipping the event and jumping back in afterwards to join your favorite character on some great adventures, I am so sorry for you. Nothing will be the same again! (That’s part of the selling point, I think?)
I could go on, but I really shouldn’t. I’m getting too upset.
Additionally, I won’t call it a golden age of superhero movies until SOME lady gets her own film. Be it Black Widow, Wonder Woman, or someone else, ITS ABOUT TIME.
